The purpose of International Journal of Scholars in Education (IJSE) is to provide a forum for original, theoretical, and research-oriented studies in education to improve the quality of research.  IJSE encourages sharing of national and international academic research. The journal publishes fully refereed papers that cover applied and theoretical approaches to the scholarship of education. IJSE publishes both Turkish and English papers.

International Journal of Scholars in Education (IJSE) publishes the following:

  1. Reports of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method studies related to educational contex
  2. Multidisciplinary research including education as a main context
  3. Diverse perspectives on teaching and learning
  4. Research articles, reflective essays, and book reviews can be submitted to IJSE.

The articles submitted to IJSE are assessed on the following standards:

The relevance to the objectives of the IJSE,

The significance in contributing novel knowledge (or providing best practices or lessons-learned in the study),

The rigor and relevance of the scholarship in educational research,

The readability of the ideas presented.

Research articles, reflective essays, and book reviews can be submitted to IJSE.

The manuscripts submitted to the IJSE should be prepared according to APA 7 guidelines.

1. Submission

The submission should be made through online submission system at any time throughout the year. No hard copy is required.

2. Language

The language of the manuscript can be in Turkish or in English (either American or British standard, but not the mixture of both).

3. Length of paper

The length of the paper should not exceed 30 pages.

4. Abstract

A concise and factual abstract is required (maximum length of 200- 250 words). The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results and major conclusions.

5. Keywords

Immediately after the abstract, provide 3- 6 keywords, avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts (avoid, for example, 'and', 'of').

6. References

Author(s) should follow the latest edition of APA.

Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). Please avoid citation in the abstract.

Reference List

References should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary. More than one reference from the same author(s) in the same year must be identified by the letters "a", "b", "c", etc., placed after the year of publication.

International Journal of Scholars in Education complies with the ethical rules in the acceptance and publication of manuscripts.

iThenticate program is used to check plagiarism. Manuscripts with more than 20 percent excerpt and overlapping with other publications without proper citation are not reviewed and immediately rejected.

Editors’ Duties and Responsibilities
IJSE Editors are liable to:
• Continually improve IJSE;
• Meet the needs of readers and writers' academic publications
• Maintain the integrity of the academic record,
• Ensure the quality of the material they publish,
• The freedom of expression;
• Preclude business needs from compromising intellectual and ethical standards,
• When needed, publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
• The manuscripts submitted to IJSE must be original in the educational sciences.
• It should be noted that the manuscripts submitted to the journal are not sent to another journal and the Copyright Transfer Form (https://dergipark.org.tr/en/journal/2231/file-manager/22552/download) must be filled.
• All citations (authors, online pages, personal interviews, etc.) used in the manuscripts should be cited correctly and appropriately. According to the citation method adopted by the journal; citation-bibliography matching should be done.
• The names of the researchers who do not contribute to the manuscript should not be added as a writer, it should not be suggested to change the author's order, to remove a writer, or to add an author during and after the manuscript is being reviewed or published.
• Conflicts of interest regarding the submitted should be stated and the reason should be explained.
• In the evaluation process, if the author (s) are asked for additional information about their manuscripts or raw data, they must be provided in a timely manner.
• The authors should document that they have the participants' consent and the permissions related to the sharing and research of the data that are used.
• Authors should contact the editor to provide information, correct, or withdraw it when they notice any errors in the stages before its publication.
• The authors must receive the ethics committee (IRB) approval for experimental, questionnaire, scale, interview, and observation that requires ethical committee decision in quantitative or qualitative research. Ethics committee name, decision date, and number should be provided on the first page and method section of the manuscript, and upload the ethics committee document to the journal’s system.
• Ethics committee approval is not required from authors for review articles.
• Authors should present proof of their ethical principles regarding the data (such as obtaining permission for others' questionnaires, scale, photograph, etc.) in the manuscript. It should be noted that the manuscripts comply with copyright regulations for research and publication ethics and intellectual and artistic works. It should be reported that researches on human and animal subjects are carried out following international guidelines, papers, etc.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers
In the IJSE manuscript evaluation process, the principle of double-blind review, in which the authors and the referees do not know each other, is applied, reviewers cannot communicate directly with the authors; the correction requests and notes specified in the manuscript evaluation forms are sent to the authors by the editors through the journal management system. The reviewers registered in IJSE have the following ethical responsibilities;
• Reviewers should only agree to evaluate manuscripts related to their field.
• Reviewers should evaluate the manuscript in neutrality and confidentiality.
• Reviewers are expected not to evaluate manuscripts with conflicts of interest. Reviewers should inform the editor about manuscript with any conflict of interest and abandon the review of the related manuscript.
• Reviewers should evaluate the manuscript within assigned time frame. If additional time is needed, the editor should be informed.
• Reviewers should assess the manuscript in constructive and gentle language. Never make insulting or humiliating personal comments in the evaluation.
• Reviewers should never use the manuscript data and results they evaluated before it is published.
• Reviewers should not mark their personal information (name, institution, etc.) in the manuscript evaluation forms or word document properties section.

Ethical Responsibilities of Publisher
• The publisher acknowledges that the decision-maker and the refereeing process are the responsibility of the editor during the manuscript publishing process in IJSE.
• The publisher provides open and free access to the journal's web page.

1. The Council of Higher Education in Turkey (CHEd):

Article 4 - (1) Actions contrary to scientific research and publishing ethics are:

a) Plagiarism: to show others' original ideas, methods, data or works as part of or completely their own work without reference to the scientific rules,

b) Fraudulent: To use data that is not actually existent or falsified in scientific research,

c) Distortion: To falsify the research records or obtained data, to show that the devices or materials not used in the research are used, to distort or shape the research results in the favor of the support persons and organizations,

ç) Re-publication: To submit duplicate publications as separate publications in academic appointment and promotion,

d) Slicing: Presenting the results of a research as separate publications in academic assignments and ascensions by disaggregating the research results in a way that disrupts the integrity of the research,

e) Unfair authorship: To include non-active contributors among writers, to include authors, to change the author sequence in an unjustified and improper way, to remove the names of active contributors from the works in later prints,

(2) Other types of ethical violations are:

a) Not to mention the persons, institutions or organizations that support the researches carried out by the support and the contributions thereof,

b) Using theses or works which have not yet been submitted or defended as a source without the permission of the owner,

c) Failing to comply with ethical rules in research on humans and animals, not respecting patient rights in publications,

ç) Contrary to the provisions of the relevant legislation in human biomedical research and other clinical trials,

d) To share the information contained in a work that has been commissioned for review with others before it is published without the explicit permission of the owner of the work,

e) to use the resources, facilities, facilities and devices provided or separated for scientific research purposefully,

f) To be unfounded, unintentional and deliberate in the name of an ethical violation,

g) To publish the data obtained without consulting the participants in the surveys and attitudes research conducted within the scope of a scientific study or, if the research is conducted in an institution, without obtaining the permission of the institution,

h) To harm animal health and ecological balance in researches and experiments,

ı) Not to receive written permission from the authorized units in research and experiments, which must be taken before starting work.

i) Legislation or engage in research and experimental work in contravention of the provisions of international conventions on related research and experiments which Turkey is a party.

j) Fail to comply with the obligation of researchers and authorities to inform and warn about the possible harmful applications related to the scientific research conducted,

k) To not use the data and information obtained from other persons and institutions in the scientific studies in the extent and in the manner allowed, to observe and protect the confidentiality of this information,

l) Incorrect or misleading biographical information on scientific research and publications in academic assignments and upgrades, not to be evaluated as a recurrent science research and publications.

2. Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE):
Authors of INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SCHOLARS IN EDUCATION (IJSE) must confirm the following:

Submitted manuscripts must be the original work of the author(s).
Submitted manuscripts should not be previously published.
It is unethical to submit a manuscript to more than one journal concurrently.
Any conflict of interest must be clearly stated.
Should any error be discovered in the manuscript after submission, the author(s) must swiftly communicate to the Editor about the corrections done.

Reviewers of INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SCHOLARS IN EDUCATION (IJSE) must confirm the following:

All manuscripts are fairly reviewed based on the intellectual content of the paper regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, citizenry nor political values of author(s)
The reviews will be objective and constructive, refrained from being hostile or inflammatory and from making libelous or derogatory personal comments.
They have the subject expertise required to carry out a proper assessment, and they assess the manuscripts promptly.
Should any conflict of interest be observed during the review process, they must be communicated to the Editor.
All information about the manuscript is kept confidential.
Information obtained during the peer-review process will not be used for their own or any other person's or organization’s advantage, or to disadvantage or discredit others.
Any information that may be the reason for the rejection of publication of a manuscript must be communicated to the Editor.

Editors of INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SCHOLARS IN EDUCATION (IJSE) confirm the following:

All manuscripts are fairly evaluated based on the intellectual content of the paper regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, citizenry nor political values of the author(s).
Information about the manuscripts are kept confidential
Should any conflict of interest about the manuscripts be observed, they must be disclosed.
The Editorial Board takes responsibility for making publication decisions for submitted manuscripts based on the reviewer's evaluation of the manuscript, policies of the journal editorial board and legal restraint acting against plagiarism, libel and copyright infringement.

International Journal of Scholars in Education (IJSE) is a free journal for authors and readers and it does not levy an article-processing charge (APC) for submission or publication. Contributors to IJSE will not be required to make an APC payment for submission or publication of their article.
