Journal Justification

Yegah Musicology Journal (YMJ) is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to bringing scholarly research on Turkish musicology, music theory, Turkish Makam Music, ethnomusicology, and contemporary composition into dialogue with the international academic community.

One of the primary aims of the journal is to enhance the global visibility of music research conducted in and related to Türkiye, particularly studies focusing on Turkish musical culture, theoretical traditions, and emerging fields of composition. YMJ seeks to provide an interdisciplinary publication platform that connects local and national musical scholarship with broader international academic discussions.

The journal focuses on performance studies, music education, composition, Turkish Makam Music, and general musicology, giving priority to fieldwork-based research, theoretical and conceptual studies, and interdisciplinary approaches. In this context, YMJ encourages not only historical and descriptive research but also original analytical, critical, and methodologically innovative contributions.

Yegah Musicology Journal adopts a fully global perspective and does not impose any geographical limitations on submissions. While offering international scholars access to Türkiye’s rich musical heritage, the journal also aims to foster comparative research and academic interaction among diverse musical traditions worldwide.

Through this approach, YMJ aspires to contribute to the increased visibility, accessibility, and sustainability of Turkish music research within the international scholarly literature.
