Differential Efficacy of Larvicidal Formulations with Distinct Modes of Action Against Aedes albopictus

Öz

Control of Aedes albopictus, one of the major vector species of medically important arboviruses, requires effective and sustainable larval control strategies. In the present study, the larvicidal efficacy of three mosquito control agents-Silicon based mononuclear film (SBMF), Bacillus thriungiensis/Bacillus sphaericus (Bti/Bs) mixture, pyriproxyfen 15 EC and pyriproxyfen 5 EW was evaluated against field collected Aedes albopictus larvae under laboratory conditions. Standard larval bioassays were performed to assess mortality rates, emergence of inhibition rates and lethal concentration values based on World Health Organisation’s test procedure. A Bti/Bs mixture showed 100% larval mortality at even half of the recommended dose of manufacturer at 24th hour. A SBMF had 100% mortality at 72nd hour in recommended dose. The estimated lethal concentrations (LC90) were 2.45 mL/m2, 94.76 mL/m2 and 34.5 mL/m2 for SBMF, pyriproxyfen 5 EW and pyriproxyfen 15 EC, respectively. Emergence of inhibition was calculated as 100% and 99,06% for pyriproxyfen 5 EW and pyriproxyfen 15 EC, respectively. Findings of this study suggest that all SBMF and Bti/Bs, pyriproxyfen 5 EW and pyriproxyfen 15 EC provide effective larval control against Aedes albopictus collected from the field. These results support the inclusion of physical and biological larvicides in integrated mosquito management programs and contribute valuable data for optimizing larval control strategies targeting Aedes albopictus populations.
