Avifaunal Checklist of Gölhisar District, Burdur Province, Southwestern Türkiye: Seasonal Occurrence and Conservation Status

Öz

This study was conducted from 2014 to 2026 to document the avifauna of Gölhisar District in Burdur Province and evaluate the species' local seasonal occurrence and international conservation status. Records obtained through line-transect surveys, point counts, and incidental observations were compiled and assessed. Thirteen years of observations documented 151 species belonging to 18 orders and 47 families. Under the IUCN Red List, three species (2.0%) were classified as Vulnerable (VU), five (3.3%) as Near Threatened (NT), and 143 (94.7%) as Least Concern (LC). The VU species were the Common Pochard (Aythya ferina), European Turtle-Dove (Streptopelia turtur), and Red-footed Falcon (Falco vespertinus); the NT species were the Ferruginous Duck (Aythya nyroca), Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa), Great Snipe (Gallinago media), and Woodchat Shrike (Lanius senator). Under the Bern Convention, 104 species (68.9%) were listed in Appendix II and 41 (27.2%) in Appendix III, while six (4.0%) were not listed in the appendices examined. Under CITES, the White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) was listed in Appendix I and 17 species (11.3%) in Appendix II; the remaining 133 species (88.1%) were not listed in the CITES appendices examined. These findings show that the aquatic, agricultural, and terrestrial habitats of Gölhisar support bird species with diverse ecological requirements. Long-term, standardized monitoring is needed to safeguard sensitive species and important breeding, foraging, and stopover habitats.
