Concept and Mission
There are no limits to art or to thinking about art. However, art is contextual. The meaning of art reveals itself best through a thorough consideration of contextual elements: These contextual
elements include the work of art itself, the artist, the technical conditions, political and aesthetic currents and approaches, the economic basis, etc. Local knowledge can only be useful insofar as it opens a door to universal virtue. Therefore, all information compiled on local examples must address theoretical and practical questions related to the raison d'être of art.
Akdeniz Sanat is a peer-reviewed journal whose editorial identity is based on the above-mentioned idea. The journal publishes academic articles on all topics focusing on art. The main aim is to contribute to the accumulation of artistic knowledge. In this process, studies that will contribute to the development of artistic research are prioritized.

Additional Rules for Writing and Publication (Additional rules to be considered during the Preliminar Evaluation process)
As stated in the Editorial of our July 2021 issue, we are introducing a new set of rules in our article evaluation processes in order to improve the quality of our Journal. For this purpose, compliance with the following criteria will be sought in the preliminary evaluation processes of the manuscripts submitted for publication in our Journal:
- The titles of the articles should be descriptive of the content of the study as in scientific research reports.
- The abstracts of the articles should include the subject/research question of the study, the methodology of the study, its contribution to the literature, main findings and conclusions.
- The keywords of the articles should be chosen among the words that best reflect the nature of the study. Apart from the introduction and conclusion sections, the articles should definitely include literature review, methodology and findings sections. However, these sections may have different titles. For example, a title such as "similar studies in the field" can be used instead of "literature review".
- The abstracts, which are written as the English equivalent of the abstracts of the articles, should be both appropriate to the abstracts and at a certain level in terms of English.
- Conclusion sections of the articles should be sections where the main findings are interpreted in terms of the relevant literature and related theories in accordance with a research report.
- The texts of the articles should not contain major violations of the Journal's spelling rules. Authors should also pay attention to the following points:
- Studies that do not have a research question or do not aim to fill a certain gap in the relevant literature or contribute to a certain discussion cannot be considered as scientific research.
- Research or original articles include studies that aim to reach a new conclusion in a certain field, which can be accepted as new information in the literature, applied to a new sample or case, etc. Review articles, on the other hand, are studies that focus on the characteristics of previously published works in a certain scientific discipline, on a certain subject, etc., and aim to describe these characteristics or to classify them into certain groups. For example, re-presenting a certain topic by quoting from previously published works and adding some commentary does not in any way qualify as a research or review article.
- The literature review and bibliography of the articles should be appropriate to the subject and research question determined and capable of answering this question. It cannot be said that texts containing sources that are far from the objectives of the study and clearly insufficient to underline the contribution of the study to the field cannot be said to comply with scientific research criteria. In matters where Turkish sources are clearly insufficient to support the subject/research question, it is imperative to consult foreign sources that will provide appropriate literature and methodological information. It is not possible to determine the contribution of the studies that do not meet this requirement to the relevant literature.
- Articles that do not mention similar studies, do not reveal their differences, and do not justify their methods and data collection techniques cannot be said to comply with the scientific research format. Our authors should pay utmost attention to the issues listed above. The manuscripts that will be uploaded to the system from now on will be required to comply with the aforementioned rules listed in the preliminary evaluation processes. Manuscripts that clearly do not comply with one or more of these issues may be rejected in the preliminary evaluation processes. We would like to inform all our authors and readers. Sincerely.

The journal respects intellectual property and aims to protect and promote the original work of its authors. Plagiarized manuscripts are contrary to the standards of quality, research and innovation. Therefore, all authors submitting manuscripts to the journal are expected to adhere to ethical standards and avoid plagiarism in any form. If plagiarism is suspected in a submitted or published manuscript, the Ethics Editor of the journal will first review the manuscript. The manuscript is then reviewed by the Editor. The Journal will then contact the author(s) to send clarifications within two weeks. If the Journal does not receive a response from the author within the specified time period, the Journal will contact the author's affiliated university to request an investigation of the allegation.
The Journal will take the following serious measures against published manuscripts found to contain plagiarism:
1. The journal will immediately contact the university to which the author(s) is affiliated to take
definitive action against the author(s) concerned.
2. The phrase "Plagiarized Article" will be added to the title of the published article.
3. The journal will deactivate the author's account and reject all future submissions from the author for 3 years.
This journal checks for plagiarism in manuscripts submitted for review: Pre-checked manuscripts are scanned for plagiarism using iThenticate software. Authors are notified if plagiarism/self-plagiarism is detected. If necessary, the editor may check the article for plagiarism at various stages of the review or production process.
