About
Journal of Academic Tourism Analysis (Journal ATA) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to publishing original, high-quality, and impactful research in tourism and its related disciplines. The journal supports interdisciplinary scholarship that examines tourism from economic, social, cultural, environmental, managerial, technological, and policy perspectives.
The primary mission of Journal ATA is to advance tourism knowledge by promoting theoretical development, methodological rigor, interdisciplinary dialogue, and evidence-based research that contributes to both academic scholarship and professional practice. The journal particularly encourages studies that move beyond describing tourism phenomena to developing new theoretical perspectives, critically evaluating existing frameworks, employing innovative research methodologies, and generating meaningful implications for tourism policy and industry.
Journal ATA publishes original research in Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, Gastronomy and Food Studies, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Destination Management, Tourism Marketing, Tourism Economics, Tourism Sociology, Tourism Anthropology, Tourism Geography, Tourism Psychology, Sustainable Tourism, Digital Tourism, Smart Tourism, Cultural Heritage, Event and Festival Studies, and other tourism-related disciplines. Interdisciplinary studies are also welcomed, provided that their primary research focus or practical application is directly related to tourism.
The journal accepts original research articles, review papers, conceptual papers, methodological studies, and interdisciplinary research demonstrating significant scholarly contribution. Rather than prioritizing purely descriptive research, Journal ATA seeks manuscripts that advance tourism scholarship through theoretical, conceptual, methodological, or practical contributions.
Committed to scientific excellence, editorial transparency, and research integrity, Journal ATA operates under a rigorous double-blind peer-review system and adheres to internationally recognized principles of publication ethics, editorial independence, methodological rigor, and open science. The journal aims to strengthen scholarly communication among researchers, practitioners, educators, and policy-makers while contributing to contemporary debates in global tourism research.
History of the Journal
Journal ATA was established in 2020 under the title Journal of Eurasian Tourism Research. Since its inception, the journal has adopted a rigorous peer-review process and a strong commitment to scientific quality, research ethics, and editorial integrity. During its first year, the journal was published annually, followed by a biannual publication schedule in subsequent years.
To strengthen its international identity, expand its global academic visibility, and better reflect its interdisciplinary scope, the journal was renamed Journal of Academic Tourism Analysis (Journal ATA) in its fifth publication year. This transformation represented not merely a change of title but a strategic commitment to higher editorial standards, internationalization, and scientific excellence.
Beginning in 2026, Journal ATA adopted the Continuous Publication model to improve the efficiency of scholarly communication and accelerate the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Under this publishing model, accepted manuscripts are published immediately after completing the editorial and production processes without waiting for issue compilation.
Today, Journal ATA continues to develop as an internationally oriented academic journal committed to open access, editorial excellence, interdisciplinary research, and the advancement of tourism scholarship while serving researchers, practitioners, educators, and policy-makers worldwide.
