The editorial board serving at The Journal of Diplomatic Research is selected from among researchers who are experts in their fields and have qualifications appropriate to the journal's publication scope. Researchers on the editorial board have certain responsibilities that must be fulfilled. These responsibilities are stated below in accordance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) principles.
It is the editor's responsibility to decide which of the articles submitted to the journal will be published. These decisions are made based on the scientific originality of the article, its academic contribution, clarity, and compatibility with the journal's scope. Personal characteristics of the authors such as race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, political views do not influence these decisions. The editor also considers legal requirements such as defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
Information regarding submitted articles is shared by the editor and editorial team only with persons involved in the process (author, reviewers, editors, and publisher). Not sharing this information with third parties and meticulously protecting confidentiality is essential.
The editor acts in accordance with COPE guidelines, international ethical standards, and journal publication policies. The editor supervises the presence of ethics committee approvals in research conducted on humans and animals and rejects articles in the absence of these approvals.
The protection of intellectual property rights of all published articles is under the editor's responsibility. In cases of possible rights violations, the editor defends the rights of the journal and authors and takes necessary measures.
It is the editor's responsibility to identify conflicts of interest that may arise among reviewers, authors, the editor, and other stakeholders and to take necessary measures to preserve the impartiality of the process. In situations where the editor experiences a conflict of interest, withdrawal from the decision-making process is necessary.
It is the editor's duty to ensure that articles are evaluated objectively and constructively by at least two independent reviewers. The editor makes arrangements to increase the number of reviewers when necessary and to ensure that reviewers act in accordance with ethical rules.
It is the editor's responsibility to ensure that the publication process is conducted in a transparent and accountable manner. Publication decisions, processes, and ethical practices are carried out openly and are audited when necessary.
Providing open and informative responses to complaints from reviewers, authors, and readers is among the editor's duties. The editor evaluates criticisms related to published works and conducts correction, retraction, or clarification processes when necessary.
