Freud’s concept of the uncanny is one of the most popular psychological terms that are applied to literature. Freud himself applied it to certain literary stories in his paper that carry the same title. This paper is explring Freud’s definition of the concept and its main features. As Edgar Allan Poe, in his works, is highly interested in horror, it makes his work ideal for the study of the uncanny. This paper deal with two well-known poems: “ The Haunted Pallace” and “ The Raven”, as they demonstrate the use of the uncanny to show how it works in certain literary works.
