Bio
Dr Erika Helmbold is currently the principal of an independent primary school in Gauteng, South Africa. She views education as far more than a career, but as a calling. Her work began as a Grade R teacher which she thoroughly enjoyed for 18 years, and still regards this year as one of the most critical in a child’s educational journey. Dr Helmbold assumed her role as principal of the school in 2015. Her passion lies in the development of the educators within her school, particularly in the area of Mathematics. Lesson Study has been an ideal platform for this development, and participation is compulsory for all the teachers who teach at her institution. She facilitates many of these Lesson Study groups and is hands-on in encouraging teachers to collaboratively share their innovative ideas.
Dr Helmbold is happily married for 22 years and is the mother of two lively teenage children.
