Professor Dr Engin Tilkat has a strong background and knowledge in plant cell, tissue and organ culture, plant physiology and plant biotechnology. Currently, he is actively working in the fields of conservation of plant genetic resources, in vitro production of plant secondary metabolites in bioreactor systems, biotechnological propagation of plant species with high added economic value, determination of metabolites of these species and investigation of ways to improve their amounts in vitro, micropropagation of Pistacia species with temporary immersion bioreactor system (RITA®), the establishment of hairy root cultures in mastic tree (P. lentiscus L.) and investigation of their biochemical activities. He worked as the Director of the School of Health Services between 2010-2011 and the Director of the School of Health between 2011-2013. He worked as a Vice-Rector of the University of Batman between 2019-2021 and the Head of the Department of Biology between 2010-2020. He is married and the father of a child.
