Geçmişten Günümüze Paralimpik Oyunlar: Para Sporcuların Uluslararası Arenadaki Yükselişi

Öz

Paralimpik Oyunlar, kuruluşundan günümüze kadar özel gereksinimli sporcuların uluslararası alanda yeteneklerini sergilemelerine olanak tanıyan önemli bir spor organizasyonu olarak dikkat çekmektedir. Ancak alan yazın incelendiğinde, Paralimpik Oyunlar’ın tarihsel gelişimi üzerine yapılan araştırmaların genellikle sınırlı ve dağınık bilgiler sunduğu görülmektedir. Bu araştırma, Paralimpik Oyunlar’ın kuruluşundan günümüze kadar geçen tarihsel süreci; organizasyonel değişimler, katılımcı ülke ve sporcu sayıları, spor dallarındaki çeşitlilik, etkinlik sayıları, madalya dağılımları ve sporcu sınıflandırma kategorileri bağlamında sistematik bir şekilde incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Ayrıca, bu araştırma Paralimpik Oyunlar’ın bireysel ve toplumsal etkilerini anlamak amacıyla tarihsel gelişim sürecindeki önemli dönüm noktalarını da incelemeyi hedeflemektedir.  Araştırmanın bulguları, Paralimpik Oyunlar’ın para sporların uluslararası arenadaki görünürlüğünü artırarak gelişimine önemli katkılar sağladığını göstermektedir. Oyunlardaki organizasyonel değişiklikler, etkinlik düzenleme süreçlerinde köklü dönüşümler meydana getirerek oyunların uluslararası standartlara uyumunu desteklemiştir. Ayrıca, katılımcı ülke ve sporcu sayılarındaki yükseliş ile spor dalları ve etkinlik çeşitliliğindeki genişleme, Paralimpik Oyunlar’ın küresel ölçekte kapsayıcılık ve erişilebilirlik ilkeleri doğrultusunda kurumsallaşan bir spor organizasyonu niteliğini güçlendirmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra, madalya dağılımlarında yaşanan değişiklikler, uluslararası arenada ülkeler arasındaki rekabetin dinamiklerini de yeniden şekillendirmiştir.

The Paralympic Games from Past to Present: The Rise of Para Athletes in the International Arena

Öz

The Paralympic Games have stood out as a major sporting event that has enabled athletes with disabilities to showcase their talents on the international stage since their inception. However, a review of the literature reveals that research into the historical development of the Paralympic Games generally provides limited and scattered information. This research aims to systematically examine the historical process of the Paralympic Games from their inception to the present day, focusing on organisational changes, the number of participating countries and athletes, the diversity of sports disciplines, the number of events, medal distributions, and athlete classification categories. Furthermore, this research aims to examine key turning points in the historical development process in order to understand the individual and societal impacts of the Paralympic Games.  The findings of the research demonstrate that the Paralympic Games have made significant contributions to the development of para-sports by enhancing their visibility on the international stage. Organisational changes within the Games have brought about fundamental transformations in event management processes, thereby supporting the Games’ alignment with international standards. In addition, the rise in the number of participating countries and athletes, alongside the expansion in the variety of sports and events, has strengthened the Paralympic Games’ status as an institutionalised sporting organisation operating in line with the principles of inclusivity and accessibility on a global scale. In addition, changes in the distribution of medals have reshaped the dynamics of competition among countries on the international stage.
