Web of Science’ta “Communication Theories” literatürünün (1980–2024) sistematik literatür ağ analizi (SLNA) ile haritalandırılması

Öz

Bu çalışma, iletişim kuramlarına ilişkin literatürü içerik düzeyinde özetlemekten ziyade, Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection’da “communication theories” anahtar ifadesiyle indekslenen yayınların ilişkisel yapısını Sistematik Literatür Ağ Analizi (SLNA) ile haritalandırmaktadır. WoS taraması sonucunda 1980–2024 döneminde 597 yayından oluşan bir veri seti oluşturulmuştur. Veri seti; yıllara göre üretim eğilimi, dergi ve konu kategorisi dağılımları, öne çıkan yazar ve ülke katkıları, atıf performansı ve anahtar kelime eş-görünüm ağları üzerinden analiz edilmiştir. Ortak atıf ve ortak yazarlık ağlarıyla alanın çekirdek referansları ile iş birliği kümeleri belirlenmiştir. Haritalar, kuramsal yönelimlerin zaman içinde hangi temalara kaydığını ve hangi düğümlerin köprü rolü üstlendiğini ortaya koymuştur. Bulgular, “communication theories” ifadesi etrafında biriken literatürün tek bir alt alana sıkışmadığını; medya çalışmaları, kültürel yaklaşımlar, eleştirel gelenekler ve disiplinlerarası temalar arasında kümeler oluşturduğunu göstermektedir. Sonuçlar, alanın tematik yoğunlaşmalarını, aktörlerini ve iş birliği örüntülerini görünür kılarak sonraki kuramsal tartışmalar ve araştırma tasarımları için veri temelli bir yol haritası ve kavramsal odakları sunmaktadır.

Mapping the "Communication Theories" literature in Web of Science (1980–2024): A systematic literature network analysis (SLNA)

Öz

This study does not merely summarize the literature on communication theories at the level of content; rather, it maps the relational structure of publications indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection under the keyword phrase “communication theories” using Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA). The WoS search yielded a dataset of 597 publications covering the period 1980–2024. The dataset was analyzed in terms of annual publication trends; the distribution of journals and subject categories; leading author and country contributions; citation performance; and keyword co-occurrence networks. Co-citation and co-authorship networks were used to identify the field’s core references and collaboration clusters. The resulting maps reveal how theoretical orientations have shifted over time toward particular themes and which nodes have assumed bridging roles. The findings indicate that the literature accumulating around the phrase “communication theories” is not confined to a single subfield; instead, it forms clusters across media studies, cultural approaches, critical traditions, and interdisciplinary themes. By making the field’s thematic concentrations, key actors, and collaboration patterns visible, the results offer a data-driven roadmap and conceptual focal points for subsequent theoretical debates and research designs.
