Data-driven decision making in schools: an evaluation on teachers' perceptions

Öz

The purpose of this study is to determine teachers' perceptions of data-based decision making in schools. A total of 392 teachers working at different school levels participated in the study in which the survey model was adopted. Data were collected through the Data-Driven Decision Making in Schools (3DM-School) Scale; descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used in the analysis. The source of significant differences was analyzed with Scheffe test. The findings showed that teachers' perceptions on data collection, data storage, data-driven culture and data-driven decision making in general were high, but their perceptions on data analysis and interpretation were moderate. It was also found that teachers with 4-6 years of experience collected more data than teachers with 10 years of experience or more, and that high school teachers had more negative perceptions of data-driven culture and data analysis than elementary school teachers. In addition, it was concluded that teachers with bachelor's degree had more positive perceptions in data collection, data-driven culture and general scale.
