Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Letters (HUJFL), the publication of Hacettepe University Faculty of Letters, is an academic and peer-reviewed journal that has been publishing national and international original scientific research articles in the fields of language, literature, social sciences, and humanities since 1983. It is published twice a year, in June and December.

Hacettepe Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi’nin yayın organı olan Hacettepe Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Dergisi (HÜEFD), 1983 yılından bu yana dil, edebiyat, sosyal ve insani bilimler alanlarında ulusal ve uluslararası özgün bilimsel araştırma yazılarına yer vermektedir. Hacettepe Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Dergisi, kapsadığı konularla ilgili ve yazım kurallarına uygun olarak hazırlanan Türkçe, İngilizce, Fransızca, Almanca yazıları dikkate almaktadır. Türkçe makalelerin Türk Dil Kurumu güncel yazım kurallarına uygunluğu ve yabancı dilde (İngilizce, Fransızca, Almanca) gönderilen makalelerin ilgili dilin yazım kurallarına uygunluğu temel koşuldur.

Hacettepe University Journal of Faculty of Letters (HUJFL), considers the articles that are related to the relevant fields it covers and that conforms with the academic writing rules. It is expected that articles in Turkish should conform with the current spelling rules of the Turkish Language Association, and articles in a foreign language (i.e., English, French and German) should be in rapport with the spelling rules of the relevant language. Submitted articles must contain at least five thousand and at most ten thousand words. Articles should be written in Times New Roman font, size 10 and single line spacing. Manuscripts to be sent to HUJFL should be arranged in compatible with the HUJFL Article Template. The bibliography should comply with APA 6th edition standards. Articles should be sent to the journal in .doc or .docx format, not .pdf.

After the preliminary evaluation, the articles that are found to be not suitable for the scope, writing convention, citation format and/or journal template are rejected.

1. Title and Author Information
The title of the article should be centred on the page, 14 points in font size, bold, and the initials of the words should be capitalized. The line before the title should be set to 0 pt, the next line to be 0 pt, and the line spacing should be set to 1.15 pt.

In the articles written in Turkish, the English titles should be written under the Turkish title; and the articles written in English, the Turkish title should be placed under the English title. This second title should be centred on the page, 14 points in font size, normal, and the initials of the words should be capitalized. The line before the title should be set to 0 pt, the next line to be 0 pt, and the line spacing should be set to 1.15 pt.

The title should be short and informative about the research topic. The length of the title should not exceed 12 words. The title should reflect the content and subject area of the article.

The names of the author(s) should be given in lowercase letters, with the surname in uppercase, in 11 points in font size and left-justified. For the author’s name, the previous line should be set to 0 pt, the next line to be 0 pt and the line spacing to 1.0 pt.

The title, institution, e-mail and ORCID numbers of the author(s) should be indicated in the footnote with an asterisk in 10 points.

2. Abstract and Keywords
At the beginning of each article, there must be an abstract in Turkish and English. If the language of the article is Turkish, the Turkish abstract should be given first; if the article is in English, the English abstract should be given first.

Abstract and “Öz” titles should be written in 11 points in font size, bold and centred on the page; the line before the title should be set to 0 pt, the next line to be 0 pt, and the line spacing should be set to 1.15.
The abstract of the article should be written in 250-300 words, reflecting the purpose, method and findings of the research.
Each article should contain at least five and at most seven keywords related to the abstract.
Abstract and keywords should be written in 10 points.

3. Sections and Sub-sections
First-level main headings should be written in 11 points, bold, plain and the initials of the words should be capitalized. The line before the title should be set to 12 pt, the next line to 12 pt and the line spacing to 1.0 pt.

Second-level subheadings should be written in 11 font size, bold, italic, and the initials of the words should be capitalized. The line before the title should be set to 12 pt, the next line to 12 pt and the line spacing to 1.0 pt.

Third-level subheadings should be written in 11 font size, thin, italic, and the initials of the words should be capitalized. The line before the title should be set to 12 pt, the next line to 12 pt and the line spacing to 1.0 pt.

Fourth-level subheadings should start in one tab and be written in 11 pt, thin, italic, and the initials of the words should be capitalized. The line before the title should be set to 12 pt, the next line to 12 pt and the line spacing to 1.0 pt.

In the body of the text, paragraph indents should be made within 1 cm and the entire paragraph should be justified. Paragraphs throughout the entire text should be set to 0 pt for the previous line, 0 pt for the next line and the line space should be set to 0 pt.

4. Footnotes and References
References should be given in accordance with APA 6th edition.

When it is necessary to give footnotes to the articles, explanations should be given at the end of the page by referring to the numbers placed in the text.

Footnotes should be set to 10 pt, previous line to 0 pt, next line to 0 pt and line spacing to 1.0 pt; the footnote text should be justified.

5. Figures
Figure title should be centred below the figure. In the text, there must be a clear reference to the figure. In the figure title, the previous line should be set to 0 pt, the next line to be 6 pt and the line spacing to 1.0.

In the figure titles, only the first letter of the first word should be written in capital letters. No text should be placed to the right or left of the figures.

If the figure is taken from another source, reference should be made to the source cited in the figure title.

6. Tables
The table title should be centred above the table. Inside the text body, there should be a clear reference to the table. In the table header, the previous row should be set to 0 pt, the next row to 6 pt and the row spacing to 1.0. Considering the table title, only the first letter of the first word should be capitalized. No text should be placed to the right or left of the tables.

Bold characters should not be used in the titles within the table, and borders should be used similar to the table exemplified in the HUJFL Article Template.

The texts in the table should be 10 points in size and the line spacing should be set to 1.0 pt.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
Hacettepe University Journal of Faculty of Letters (HUJFL) is an academic and peer-reviewed journal that has been publishing original national and international scientific research articles in the field of language, literature, social sciences, and humanities since 1983 and continues its publication life in line with the following principles.

Responsibilities of the Author(s)

• Authors are obliged to submit their original (unpublished) works to the journal and to follow the writing instructions given on the journal website.
• Authors should not submit works that have been previously published or whose peer-review process has begun on another platform.
• Authors refer to any sources that are influential or informative in shaping the ideas in their articles.
• Authors do not use the information they are familiar with as referees in an article or a scholarship evaluation process without permission.
• If the authors want to mention the information obtained from personal communication in the study, they must have obtained the necessary permissions from the people to be mentioned, otherwise this information should not be included in the study.
• If the work is supported by an institution or organization within the scope of a project, all financial supports should be written with the support numbers.

Ethical Permissions

• If the study requires human subjects, the authors are required to obtain institutional ethics committee approval.
  Authors should provide a clear statement explaining that necessary consent has been obtained from human subjects and that the rights of participants are respected.
• Permission must be obtained from the owners for the use of scales, questionnaires and photographs belonging to others.
• Compliance with copyright regulations must be specified for the intellectual and artistic works used.
• The following situations require ethics committee approval:
• All kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from the participants by using survey, interview, focus group work, observation, experiment, interview techniques,
• The use of humans and animals (including material/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes,
• Clinical studies on humans,
• Research on animals.

Reviewing Process

• Each study submitted to HUJFL is subject to the double-blind peer-review process and editorial decision based on objective evaluation.
• Each study sent to HUJFL is evaluated by the editor in terms of compliance with the journal's publication policy and sent to two referees who are experts in their field.
• Editors are responsible for appointing reviewers who have no conflict of interest with the authors to evaluate the work.
• Confidentiality is essential in the author-referee and referee-author processes of the studies submitted to the journal.
• The journal operates a double-blind peer-review process in order to conduct conflicts of interest in peer-reviews fairly. In this way, the reviewers and authors will not be aware of each other during and after the evaluation process.
• The field editor, who monitors the management of the process, is responsible for informing the editor in cases of conflict of interest and requesting that the relevant work be directed to another field editor.
• Authors are obliged to make the requested updates and report in a numbered format in a way that does not allow delays in line with the feedback of the referees and in cooperation with the referees or editors.

Publication Ethics

• Editors are responsible for enhancing the scientific quality of the journal and supporting authors to produce high-quality scientific research. Under no circumstances is plagiarism or scientific abuse allowed.
• Studies sent to HUJFL are checked for scientific theft. Editors may withdraw the article if they become aware of alleged or proven scientific misuse.
• Editors agree to correct, withdraw or issue an apology for the submitted work when necessary.
• HUJFL uses the open-access model. Studies accepted to be published in the journal have been made accessible via open access on the journal's website.
• No fee or expense is charged for the studies to be published and published on the web page of the journal.
  

Copyright and Access

• The authors acknowledge that they have transferred the copyrights of the published articles to HUJFL.
• Pictures, figures, etc. that should be included in the article. It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission from the necessary persons or institutions for the material to support the narrative.

Publication Plan

• HUJFL is published twice a year, in June and December.
