Review Process

Review Process

The International Journal of Agriculture, Environment and Food Sciences implements a rigorous double-blind peer review system to ensure scientific quality, editorial transparency, and adherence to ethical publishing standards. Both reviewers and authors remain anonymous throughout the process.
Manuscripts are only considered if they have not been previously published or submitted elsewhere

Initial Editorial Check

After submission, each manuscript undergoes a preliminary technical screening by the editorial office to confirm:

  • Compliance with submission guidelines
  • Completion of all required metadata and supporting documents
  • Formatting using the official manuscript template
  • Plagiarism screening via iThenticate or İntihal.net

Manuscripts with a similarity index above 24% are returned to the authors without further processing. Only compliant submissions proceed to editorial assessment.

Editorial Pre-Evaluation

The Editor-in-Chief evaluates the manuscript for:

  • Relevance to the journal’s scope
  • Originality and scientific contribution
  • Methodological soundness and ethical compliance
  • Language quality and clarity

Manuscripts failing to meet minimum standards may be desk rejected without external review. Authors are encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally edited by a native English speaker before submission.

Editorial Processing Charge (EPC)

Following editorial pre-approval, authors are required to pay the Editorial Processing Charge (EPC) before the manuscript enters peer review. For details, visit the Price Policy page.

Peer Review Process

Each manuscript is sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant subject expertise. Reviewers assess submissions according to:

  • Originality and novelty
  • Scientific and methodological rigor
  • Clarity of results and interpretation
  • Relevance and contribution to the field
  • Compliance with ethical and research standards

The journal employs a double-blind review system—both author and reviewer identities are concealed throughout the process.

Reviewer Recommendations

Based on their evaluations, reviewers may recommend one of the following outcomes:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

Reviewer reports and comments are shared confidentially with the authors via the submission system.

Author Revisions

If revisions are requested, authors must:

  • Revise the manuscript according to reviewer comments.
  • Highlight all changes using colored text or track changes.
  • Submit a detailed Response Letter addressing each reviewer comment or providing justification where not applicable.

Authors are granted 30 days to submit revised manuscripts. Extension requests must be made in advance. Failure to respond within the deadline may lead to withdrawal of the submission.

Final Editorial Decision

After evaluating the revised manuscript, the Editor-in-Chief may:

  • Accept the manuscript
  • Request further revisions
  • Forward it for an additional round of peer review
  • Reject the submission

Additional reviewers may be consulted as needed. The final decision is based on scientific merit, reviewer feedback, and editorial judgment.

Galley Proof and Final Approval

Accepted manuscripts proceed to the production phase, which includes:

  • Technical editing and typesetting
  • Language polishing (if required)
  • Generation of the galley proof sent to the corresponding author for final approval

Authors must review the proof carefully and return any corrections promptly to avoid publication delays.

Publication and Archiving

Once finalized, the article is published online with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and becomes fully citable. All published articles are permanently preserved in the Journal Archive for long-term access and indexing.

Review Timeline

The journal aims to maintain a fair and efficient review process. The estimated average timeline for each stage is:

  • Initial Technical Check: 5–7 days
  • Editorial Pre-Evaluation: 7–10 days
  • Peer Review (First Round): 4–6 weeks
  • Author Revision: up to 30 days
  • Additional Review (if needed): 2–3 weeks
  • Final Decision: 7–10 days
  • Galley Proof Review: 3–5 days

Average total duration: 8–10 weeks (depending on manuscript quality, reviewer availability, and author responsiveness).

Transparency and Ethics: The journal adheres to COPE and CSE peer review guidelines, ensuring fairness, confidentiality, and accountability in all editorial decisions.
