Publication Principles and Author Guidelines

Sinop University Social Sciences Journal is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal dedicated to publishing original and high-quality research in the field of social sciences. All submitted manuscripts are evaluated in accordance with the principles of academic integrity, scientific quality, and publication ethics.

1. Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts the following types of submissions:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Book Reviews
  • Translation Studies
  • Other scholarly contributions approved by the Editorial Board

The Editorial Board reserves the right to recommend a different manuscript category when appropriate.

2. Submission Requirements

Submitted manuscripts must:

  • be original and unpublished;
  • not be under consideration for publication by another journal;
  • comply with internationally accepted principles of research and publication ethics.

Manuscripts previously presented at a congress, symposium, workshop, or scientific meeting may be considered for publication, provided that this is clearly indicated in the manuscript.

All submissions must be made electronically through the DergiPark Journal Management System.

3. Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts undergo:

  • initial editorial screening;
  • plagiarism screening;
  • double-blind peer review;
  • final editorial decision.

Manuscripts considered suitable for review are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject area.

4. Publication Ethics

The journal conducts its editorial and publication processes in accordance with:

  • COPE Core Practices;
  • COPE Guidelines;
  • ICMJE Recommendations;
  • TR Dizin Ethical Principles.

Where required, manuscripts must be accompanied by ethics committee approval documentation.

Authors are also required to disclose any conflicts of interest and sources of financial support.

5. Copyright and Open Access

Sinop University Social Sciences Journal follows the Gold Open Access publishing model.

All published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license.

Authors retain the copyright of their work while granting the journal the non-exclusive right of first publication.

The journal does not charge submission fees, article processing charges (APCs), publication fees, or page charges.

6. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be prepared using Microsoft Word.

A manuscript is generally expected to include the following sections:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Methodology (where applicable)
  • Findings/Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • References

The section headings may vary depending on the nature of the research.

7. Abstract and Keywords

Each manuscript must include:

  • an abstract in the language of the manuscript;
  • an English abstract.

Each abstract should summarize the objectives, methodology, principal findings, and conclusions of the study and should not exceed 300 words.

Authors should provide up to five keywords in both the language of the manuscript and English.

Where required by the journal's publication policy, Turkish-language manuscripts may also include an extended English abstract.

8. Formatting Requirements

Manuscripts should be prepared using the journal's current manuscript template.

Authors are expected to:

  • use Times New Roman font;
  • follow the APA 7th Edition citation style;
  • apply a consistent heading structure;
  • number tables and figures consecutively and provide appropriate captions.

Tables, figures, and illustrations should be placed close to their first citation in the text and accompanied by appropriate source information where applicable.

9. References

All citations and references must conform to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style.

Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references.

10. Author Information

During submission, authors must provide:

  • ORCID iD;
  • institutional affiliation;
  • country;
  • e-mail address.

To ensure the integrity of the double-blind peer review process, identifying information must not appear in the anonymized manuscript file.

11. Digital Preservation and Archiving

The journal supports the long-term preservation and accessibility of published content through institutional archiving and digital preservation practices.

Authors may deposit the published Version of Record in institutional repositories and academic sharing platforms, provided that the original publication is properly cited and the DOI is included.

12. Final Provisions

The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board reserve the right to make decisions on matters not explicitly covered by these Publication Principles and Author Guidelines.

The journal also reserves the right to revise these guidelines in accordance with developments in scholarly publishing standards and international best practices.
