Sinop University Social Sciences Journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, transparency, and accountability. The journal supports the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in accordance with the COPE Position Statement on Authorship and AI Tools, the ICMJE Recommendations, and internationally recognized publishing standards.
1. Use of AI-Assisted Technologies
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies whenever such tools have contributed to the preparation of a manuscript.
These tools may be used for purposes such as:
- language editing;
- grammar and spelling correction;
- translation assistance;
- code development;
- data analysis support;
- preparation of figures or tables.
However, authors remain fully responsible for the study design, methodology, interpretation of results, scientific conclusions, and the overall integrity of the manuscript.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
Where AI-assisted technologies have been used, authors should clearly state:
- the name of the AI tool;
- the model or version (where applicable);
- the purpose of its use;
- the extent of human review and revision.
Example
“This manuscript was linguistically edited with the assistance of ChatGPT (OpenAI). All scientific content, interpretations, and final revisions were reviewed and approved by the authors.”
3. Authorship and Accountability
Artificial intelligence tools:
- cannot be listed as authors;
- cannot hold copyright;
- cannot declare conflicts of interest;
- cannot accept responsibility for the integrity of published work.
Only human authors may assume authorship and are fully accountable for all aspects of the manuscript.
4. Editorial Use of AI
Editors may use AI-assisted technologies to support editorial workflows where appropriate. However, all editorial decisions—including reviewer selection, acceptance, revision requests, and rejection—remain the sole responsibility of the editors.
5. Misuse of AI
Failure to disclose the use of AI-assisted technologies, presenting AI-generated content as original scholarly work without appropriate disclosure, or any misuse that compromises research integrity may constitute publication misconduct.
The journal reserves the right to take appropriate editorial action in accordance with COPE Guidelines, including requesting clarification, rejecting the manuscript, publishing corrections, or retracting the article where necessary.
