Biyografi

Vedat Özsoy was born in Kayseri's Pınarbaşı district (June 19, 1956). He graduated from the Art and Craft Department of Gazi Education Institute (1978).
He worked as an art teacher for two years at the Fethiye High School (1979-1980). He served as the Director of Kayseri State Fine Arts Gallery of the Ministry of Culture (1980-1987). He attended Berlin Goethe Institute (1983) to learn German. He completed his undergraduate degree in the Department of Art and Craft Education in Gazi Faculty of Education, at Gazi University (1987).
He received his master’s degree at the Institute of Art and Design (Birmingham City University, Formerly Birmingham Polytechnic), UK (1991), and his doctorate at the Institute of Social Sciences at Gazi University (1995) and his post-doctorate at the College of Fine Arts of the Arizona State University (1996-97).
In 1998 he became an Associate Professor and a Professor in 2004 in the field of Art and Craft Education.
Prof. Özsoy chaired the National Commission for the Development of Elementary Art and Craft Education Curriculum (1991 - 1992) and participated in several in-service training courses in the Ministry of National Education (1991-1996). He also participated as an instructor in the curriculum development program and in-service courses for the Anatolian Fine Arts High Schools (1991 - 2012).
He was a member of the working party at the Turkish Higher Education Council to develop a new curricula and to prepare countries first teacher education standards for the Faculties of Education (1997-2000). He was one of the members of the working groups for the Higher Education Council's World Bank-supported projects; Faculties of Education's Curriculum Program Development Project, Faculty-School Partnership Program Project and, Standards and Accreditation for Teacher Education Project (1997-2002). During this time, he attended the accreditation specialization seminars at the Teacher Agency in London and at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Boston (1999). He participated in the training on Quality Assurance in Art and Design Education (2008) jointly organized by Birmingham City University with the European League of the Arts (ELIA) and the International Council of Fine Arts Deans (CFAD). He made visits to various faculties of education for accreditation purposes.
Prof. Özsoy served as a member of the Executive Board of Turkish Radio - Television Corporation (2000-2004).
He founded the Visual Arts Education Association (GÖRSED) in 2003.
He also is a member of the International Society for Education through Art; he was an influential name in the InSEA’s 7th European Regional Congress held in Turkey (2004). He was elected to the InSEA World Council for two terms (2008-2014). During this mission, he participated in the General Assemblies and congresses of the World Alliance for Arts Education (WAAE) in New Castle and Seoul.
From 2014 to 1917 he served as Secretary of the International Society for Education through Art (InSEA).
Prof. Özsoy published these books: Visual Arts Education: Historical and Intellectual Foundations of Art Education (2004/2007/2015), Visual Arts Education - Articles (2008/2016), Visual Design Elements and Principles (with A. Ayaydın - 2015), and Special Teaching Methods in Visual Arts Education: Art and Craft Education (with AO Alakuş - 2009/2017).
He is editor for these books published by GÖRSED: (InSEA) 7th European Regional Congress Proceedings (with O. Kırışoğlu - 2005); Practices in Visual Arts Education: Methods and Techniques; Museum Education and Practices in Visual Arts Education: Methods of Elementary Art Education.
His article entitled "Arts Education and Violence in Schools" were published as a book chapter in the International Yearbook for Research in Arts Education 2014/2.
Prof. Özsoy’s research involves qualitative inquiries in art and design education, art teacher education, curriculum studies, quality assurance in education, and museum education. He has published numerous articles in various scientific and artistic journals. He was invited as a keynote speaker to various art, design, and training congresses. He also participated in national and international congresses, group, and mixed painting exhibitions. He served on the referee committee of the following scholarly refereed journals: two internationally art education journals; eighteen educational sciences, and three in art and design. A total of 23 journals.
He directed seventeen master's and fourteen doctoral theses in the field of visual arts and design education at the academy. He also fulfilled a duty as a member of the "PhD Thesis Monitoring Committee" for nine PhD candidates.
Prof. Özsoy served as the Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts at Erciyes University, (2005-2008) and the Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture at TOBB University of Economics and Technology (2008-2015). During these duties, he was a member of the Education Council and Educational Commission of the Arts Divisions of Council of Universities (2005-2015).
Prof. Özsoy was awarded to the Visual Arts Education Honorary Award, traditionally given by the Visual Arts Education Association (2013).
He was adviser for the Visual Arts Curriculum Development Commission of Turkish Education Association’s Ankara Private Schools, (2013-2014). He was also adviser for the Ankara Yenimahalle District Education Directorate on the "My School is Ankara" museum education project (2016), which was prepared by Ankara Development Agency.
He served as a visiting professor at British Columbia University in Vancouver, Canada (2016-2017).
He is also an art consultant in APEAS Construction Company.
Prof. Özsoy is currently continuing education, teaching and research activities at the Department of Art and Design in the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the TOBB University of Economics and Technology.
