General Principles
Akademik Tarih ve Düşünce Dergisi / Academic Journal of History and Idea is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical publishing, and scholarly responsibility. The journal is founded on the principles of objectivity, transparency, and the advancement of knowledge through original and high-quality research. All publication processes are conducted in accordance with internationally recognised ethical standards.
The journal adheres to the principles and guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All stakeholders involved in the publication process—publisher, editors, editorial board members, authors, reviewers, and readers—are expected to comply with these ethical principles and to act responsibly throughout all stages of submission, review, and publication.
Any form of misconduct, including data fabrication or falsification, plagiarism, misuse of sources, unethical research practices, or violations of individual rights, constitutes grounds for immediate rejection of a manuscript. In such cases, the author(s) and, where necessary, their affiliated institution(s) will be formally notified.
Publisher’s Ethical Responsibilities
Akademik Tarih ve Düşünce Dergisi / Academic Journal of History and Idea is a non-profit, independent academic journal that operates without financial or institutional influence. The publisher is committed to safeguarding editorial independence and ensuring that all editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of scholarly merit.
The journal has been published in accordance with ethical principles since its first issue in December 2013. The editorial, advisory, and publication boards consist of scholars from various countries and operate on a voluntary basis. The publisher ensures that all publication processes are conducted transparently, ethically, and in the public interest.
Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief and Editors
The Editor-in-Chief holds ultimate responsibility for overseeing the entire editorial process and ensuring compliance with ethical standards. Editors act on behalf of the editorial board and manage the peer-review process impartially, efficiently, and confidentially.
Editors:
Evaluate submissions solely on the basis of academic quality, originality, relevance, and methodological rigor, without discrimination based on the author’s gender, ethnicity, nationality, institutional affiliation, political views, or beliefs.
Ensure that all manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer-review process.
Maintain confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and reviewer identities.
Identify and manage potential conflicts of interest.
Reject manuscripts that fail to meet ethical standards, including those with unacceptable levels of similarity detected through plagiarism screening tools.
Take appropriate action in cases of suspected misconduct, following COPE procedures.
Editorial Board Responsibilities
The Editorial Board supports the editors in maintaining the scientific quality and ethical integrity of the journal. Its responsibilities include:
Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of journal policies.
Upholding academic freedom and editorial independence.
Protecting authors’ intellectual property rights.
Ensuring the proper archiving and documentation of editorial correspondence and decisions.
Monitoring the journal’s compliance with indexing and database requirements.
Peer Reviewers’ Ethical Responsibilities
Akademik Tarih ve Düşünce Dergisi / Academic Journal of History and Idea employs a double-blind peer-review system, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential.
Peer reviewers are expected to:
Review manuscripts only within their areas of expertise.
Conduct evaluations objectively, fairly, and confidentially.
Declare any conflicts of interest and decline review when such conflicts exist.
Provide constructive, respectful, and scholarly feedback.
Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.
Refrain from using unpublished material for personal research purposes.
Authors’ Ethical Responsibilities
Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal are deemed to have accepted the following responsibilities:
Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
All sources must be properly cited in accordance with ethical and academic standards.
Authorship must accurately reflect individual contributions; all listed authors must have made a significant scholarly contribution.
Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
Studies involving human participants or data collection methods requiring ethical approval must include clear documentation of approval by a recognized ethics committee.
Authors must promptly inform the editors of any errors or inaccuracies discovered after submission or publication.
Withdrawal of a manuscript is not permitted once the peer-review process has begun, except under exceptional and justified circumstances.
Handling of Ethical Misconduct
Allegations of ethical misconduct related to submitted, accepted, or published articles are taken seriously. Any suspected violation of publication ethics should be reported to the journal via official communication channels. The journal will investigate all allegations in accordance with COPE guidelines and will take appropriate actions, which may include rejection, retraction, or notification of relevant institutions.
