ACADEMIC JOURNAL AUTHOR GUIDELINES
Publication Principles of the Academic Journal of History and Idea
(Applicable to issues published from April 2023 onward)
1. Responsibility for Content
All scientific, legal, and ethical responsibility for the content of articles published in the Academic Journal of History and Idea rests entirely with the author(s). Published works reflect the academic views and findings of the author(s); the journal, its editors, and the editorial board cannot be held responsible for these views.
Once an article has been published, authors may not request its removal from publication, except in exceptional cases that require correction, retraction, expression of concern, or other editorial actions in accordance with publication ethics.
2. Copyright, Licensing, and the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works
The copyright of published articles belongs to the author(s). However, the use and protection of the articles are subject to the provisions of Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works.
By submitting a manuscript to the journal, the author(s) declare and undertake that the work:
is their own original work,
does not infringe the copyright of third parties,
has been prepared in compliance with all moral and economic rights protected under applicable copyright law.
In the event that a published article is later found to involve copyright infringement, unauthorized use, authorship disputes, or similar legal issues, all legal and criminal liability rests solely with the author(s). Such situations do not bind the journal, its editors, or the editorial board.
3. Open Access Policy
The Academic Journal of History and Idea is an open-access academic journal. All articles published in the journal are made freely available under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/
Under this license, articles may be shared, reproduced, adapted, and translated for non-commercial purposes, provided that:
proper scholarly attribution is given to the author(s) and the journal, and
it is clearly stated that the work was first published in the Academic Journal of History and Idea.
4. No Guarantee of Publication
Submission of a manuscript to the journal does not guarantee publication. Only manuscripts that successfully complete the editorial and peer-review processes are accepted for publication.
5. Editorial Preliminary Review
All submitted manuscripts undergo an editorial preliminary review before being sent to peer review. The journal reserves the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with its scope, author guidelines, scientific standards, or ethical principles.
6. Revision Timeline
If authors fail to respond to revision requests made by editors or reviewers for a period exceeding one year, the journal does not guarantee the retention of the manuscript in draft status within the system.
7. Post-Publication Ethical Violations and Journal Authority
If a published article is later found to be problematic due to plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, ethical violations, unauthorized use of third-party works, unlawful content, or similar reasons, all legal and penal responsibility rests solely with the author(s).
In such cases, the Academic Journal of History and Idea reserves the right to:
temporarily suspend online publication of the article,
publish a retraction notice,
restrict access to or remove the article while retaining it in the archive,
notify relevant institutions and indexing services when necessary.
These actions are carried out in accordance with international publishing standards, COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, and applicable legal regulations.
8. Confidentiality and Ethical Standards
The manuscript evaluation and publication process is conducted in strict accordance with scientific and ethical standards. In the double-blind peer review process, authors are not entitled to request information regarding the identities of reviewers. The authority to manage and finalize editorial decisions rests entirely with the journal.
9. Conflict of Interest
If a conflict of interest, close relationship, or prior acquaintance between an author and a reviewer is identified at any stage of the evaluation process, the journal reserves the right to suspend the process, appoint new reviewers, or reject the manuscript.
10. Manuscript Submission and Acceptance of Journal Policies
Manuscripts must be submitted in Word format, without any author-identifying information (such as name, institutional affiliation, or ORCID), via the journal’s online system:
https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/atdd
By submitting a manuscript to the journal, all authors are deemed to have read, understood, and accepted the journal’s publication, ethical, open access, and copyright policies. This acceptance is valid without the need for any additional written confirmation.
11. Scope
The Academic Journal of History and Idea accepts manuscripts in the fields of history, geography, religious studies, philosophy, pedagogy, architecture, linguistics and literature, archaeology, art, political history, human geography, economics, law, political science, public administration, urban history, environmental economics, sociology, and related disciplines.
12. Plagiarism Screening
Authors are required to submit a plagiarism/similarity report with their manuscripts. The similarity rate must not exceed 18%. The journal also conducts independent similarity checks using iThenticate software.
13. Copyright and Author Agreement
Submission of the Copyright and Author Agreement form is mandatory and must be uploaded to the system together with the manuscript.
14. Peer Review Process (Double-Blind Peer Review)
Manuscripts that pass the preliminary review are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process by at least two reviewers appointed by the editor. When necessary, a third or fourth reviewer may be consulted.
15. Editorial Responsibility
Throughout the evaluation process, the assigned editor is responsible for monitoring the manuscript’s compliance with language quality, academic writing standards, and reviewer recommendations.
16. Research and Publication Ethics / Ethics Committee Approval
For studies requiring ethics committee approval, the relevant document must be submitted together with the manuscript. Manuscripts for which required ethics approval documents are not provided upon request will be rejected.
17. Article Withdrawal Policy
Unless there is a valid reason approved by the editorial board, manuscripts that have entered the evaluation process may not be withdrawn. The final decision rests with the editorial board.
18. Manuscript Format and Writing Rules
Manuscripts must consist of a title page, main text, and references.
