Erdem Akbaş, holds his PhD from University of York, UK (2015) and now works as Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages Education, Erciyes University, Turkey. His research interests include corpus linguistics & language teaching, written & spoken academic discourses, teaching academic writing, and classroom discourse. He has been co-organizing the first-of-its-kind conference on metadiscourse since 2017 (MAG2017, MAG2019, MAG2021: Metadiscourse Across Genres: Mapping Interaction in Spoken & Written Discourses). He also published a co-edited book and a co-edited special issue on metadiscourse. Dr. Akbaş is also a member of SWADA (Spoken and Written Academic Discourse Analysis) Research Group and ERUMARG, a research group exploring social interaction from a micro-analytical perspective. His earlier research has appeared in various reputable journals (i.e., Studies in Second Language Learning and Teaching, Lingua, Ibérica, etc.) as well as in books published by Springer, Palgrave Macmillan and Peter Lang.
