Bio
Recep Baydemir was born in the center of Diyarbakır. He completed his primary and secondary education at Istiklal Primary School, and his high school education at Diyarbakır Toplu Konut Anatolian High School. He graduated from Dicle University, Department of Sociology in 2013. The same year, he started master’s education at Gaziantep University, Department of Sociology. He completed his thesis titled “Ideological Messages of Monuments and Statues and Social Perceptions: A Case Study of Diyarbakır” in 2016. He started PhD education at Harran University, Department of Geography in the field of Migration Studies, one of the 100 special fields opened by Council of Higher Education (CoHE), with a scholarship in 2017. During his doctoral education, he studied at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland within the scope of the Erasmus program between September 2018 and June 2019. In April 2023, he graduated with his PhD thesis titled “The Production of Social Space: The Encounter of Syrians and Sanliurfans in the City of Sanliurfa”.
He has various studies on issues such as multiculturalism, cultural conflict, cohesion, integration, child labor, child labor in seasonal agriculture, space, migration, refugees, and continues his studies on these issues.
He is a member of the American Sociological Association (ASA).
