The Impact of Traditional (Face-to-Face) and Web-Based Cognitive Behavioral Psychoeducation Programs on Cyber Victimization

Öz

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-informed psychoeducation programs, titled "I am in Control in the Cyber World," delivered via traditional (face-to-face) and web-based modalities on adolescent cyber victimization levels. Utilizing a 4×3 mixed-factorial experimental design, 44 students in the 9th and 10th grades were randomly assigned to four conditions: traditional intervention, web-based intervention, placebo, and control groups. Data were collected using the Cyberbullying Vulnerability Scale (CVS). Results indicated that both the traditional and web-based psychoeducation programs led to a statistically significant reduction in cyber victimization compared to the control and placebo groups (p<.001, ηp² =.662). No significant differences were found between the two active intervention groups at post-test or follow-up, suggesting that both modalities maintained long-term efficacy. These findings demonstrate that CBT-based interventions, whether delivered traditionally or digitally, provide robust frameworks for mitigating cyber victimization and enhancing psychological resilience in the digital age. The implications of these results for school counseling services and the development of cyberbullying prevention strategies are discussed.
