Research Articles

Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University Journal of Social and Economic Research is a non-profit, scientific, academic and refereed international journal aiming contributions to the literature by publishing articles based on theoretical and / or original research in the field of social sciences.  

Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University Journal of Social and Economic Research is published electronically twice a year, in June and December.

Studies in the fields of economics, business administration, finance, labor economics, econometrics, public administration, political science, international relations, law, behavioral sciences, marketing, social services, international trade, logistics, sociology, philosophy, etc. are evaluated.

Submitted studies include theoretical, empirical and case studies written in Turkish or English. Review articles and technical reports are also published. Scientific and legal responsibility of the published articles belongs to their authors. 

General Rules of Writing

1. Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University Journal of Social and Economic Research is per-reviewed international journal that is published twice a year (June and December)

2. Manuscript submitted to KMU Journal of Social and Economic Research shouldn’t have been published or submitted for publication before.

3. The type of the manuscripts submitted for publication in the journal (such as Type: Research Article / Review Article / Book Introduction / Book Review, etc.) should be indicated under “Keywords”.

4. The copyright of the articles published in the journal belongs to the journal. Therefore, the author (s) should upload the Copyright Transfer Agreement form to the system during the article upload process.

By this way, the author acknowledges that the copyright of the manuscript is approved for publication in the journal.

5. For translated manuscripts submitted to the journal (only translated manuscripts), the author's permission and the original copy of the manuscript are required. In addition, the translation works are sent to the referee for approval, just like the copyright works.

6. The opinions in the articles published in the journal are the personal opinions of the authors. The articles are not official views of KMU and journal boards.

7. If the author is required to make a correction, the correction must be made within 20 days at the latest and sent to the Editorial Board.

8. Authors should submit their titles, institutions, e-mail addresses and Orcid IDs as footnotes (*). All the information about the author (s) is deleted by the editor of the journal in accordance with the principle of blind refereeing and the refereeing process starts in this direction.

9. If the study is supported by an institution or prepared from a doctoral / master's thesis, this should be given as a footnote at the bottom of the first page.

10. The articles sent to the journal should be submitted by plagiarism screening. Similarity in the report (excluding references) should be 20% or less.


Other Principles of Writing Rules

·     All original and scientific articles related to the content of the journal are included as a result of the evaluations of the arbitration board. The submitted articles are first reviewed by the editorial board considering the scope of the journal and the rules of writing. The studies that have the necessary conditions are forwarded to two referees for evaluation. The referee process of the articles is initiated in line with “the principle of blind refereeing". The referees are allowed 15 days to accept the evaluation and to evaluate the work. If there is no return from the referee (s) during this period, new referee appointments are made. Acceptance of the study for publication is required by two referees. If one of the referee evaluations is “accept” and the other is “rejection”, a third referee is appointed to evaluate the study. After all these processes are completed, studies that receive positive reports from the referees are included in the publication process. In this process, the author (s) for the final checks are submitted to the study and eventually taken to the archive for publication.

·      The manuscripts submitted to the journal should be in Turkish or English. Spelling and punctuation and abbreviations are based on the latest edition of the Turkish Language Association Spelling Book. Manuscripts should be clear and understandable in terms of language and expression in accordance with scientific criteria.

·        The manuscripts submitted for publication should not exceed 10,000 words, including the abstract and bibliography, except in exceptional circumstances.

Format

·         Pages should be 2.5 cm apart from the right, left, bottom and top.

·         In the main sections of the article, the font should be aligned with Times New Roman, 11 pt, 1.15 line spacing and justified.

·         Paragraphs should start with a tab (1.25 cm) from the inside.

·         When quoting the block, the entire quotation should be in a tab (1.25 cm). The reference should not be forgotten when the quote is finished (Source, year: page number).

·         In the submitted works, page numbering should be done at the end of the page (bottom, centered).

Title of the Study

·         Turkish and English titles are written in 14 pt, centered on the first page and only the first letters are capitalized.

Abstract

·        There should be an abstract of 100-150 words (in Turkish and English, whichever language is written first). In addition, at least 3 and 7 keywords should be included for the article, and the keywords should be written in a tab (1,25 cm) from the inside. Abstract should be 1.0 line spacing and 9 points.

Headings

·         The titles of the studies should be given numbers starting from the introduction section (such as 1., 1.1., 1.1.1.).  1. Level headings should be typed in capitals, 2. and 3. Level headings should be typed in capitalize the first letter while 4. Level and other subheadings should be italic and typed in capitalize only first letter of first word.

Table, Graphic, Figures and Pictures 

·         Table names should be at the top of the table; graphic, figure and picture names should be under.


·         Figures, pictures, graphics and tables should be numbered and centered on the page.


·         Line spacing should be specified as 1.0 for the articles in tables and figures.

In-text Reference Representation

Citations should be made in the text by using the link method. Citations in the text should be in the form of the surname of the author (s), the year of the source and the page number. In publications with three or more authors, the first citation should be the surname of all authors, followed by “surname of the first author et al.” (eg. Kerse et al., 2018). If there is no author name, institution name should be used instead of author.

·         Citations in single author publications: (Oktay, 2011: 70).

·         Citations in publications with two authors: (Kerse and Babadag, 2019: 422).

·         Citation in publications with three or more authors: (Paksoy, Gokce and Gol, 2014: 35).

·         Four and more: (Ince et al., 2016: 33)

·         Citing multiple sources: (Schumpeter, 1934: 66; Wood, 2005: 36).

·         Citation for the whole resource: (Drucker, 1995).

·         Citation for references without author name: (TUIK, 2012: 45).

·         Citation for more than one publication of an author in the same year: (Kerse, 2019a: 532; Kerse, 2019b: 207).

If the citation is taken from a website and the author of the citation is certain, it should be cited in a similar manner to periodicals. If the date of source downloaded from the Internet is not given, the date of access to the relevant file should be used as the year of the resource.

References

All references used in the article should be included in the bibliography section.

The sources used should be listed alphabetically according to the surname of the author without distinction of quality (thesis, book, article, report, etc.). The works of the same author should be placed in the bibliography starting with the most recent date. Bibliography should be indented (Hanging - 1 cm). Bibliography should be prepared in accordance with the following examples.

If the source does not belong to an author but an institution or organization, the name of the institution, the title of the manuscript (if any) and the internet address should be given in the bibliography.

NOTE: In cases where spelling is not specified, the issues adopted in scientific writing should be taken into consideration. 

ETHICAL PRINCIPLES 

KMUSEKAD is a scientific journal that references the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) during the evaluation and publishing phase of the studies.
Copyright regulations are followed for each work in the journal.

Publication Ethics 
Some principles of publication ethics are followed in the journal. In this direction, plagiarism (Turnitin or iThenticate) scan is made for quality and originality for each article submitted to the journal. Besides, the opinions and thoughts contained in the articles are entirely owned by the authors; it is not the opinions of our institution and our journal. Although all scientific and legal responsibilities of the articles -hence the responsibility of publication ethics- belong to the authors, Editors and Referees also have some responsibilities. Research Ethics
Permissions should be obtained for the scale, photograph, figure, etc. used in the articles submitted to the journal. It should be stated that copyright regulations are complied with in the use of intellectual and artistic works. If the articles are made experimentally or empirically, they should be prepared in accordance with international standards and this should be stated. 

Legal / Special Permission Certificate
If the data used in the articles submitted to the journal are related to the institution or individuals, the authors must obtain legal / special permission. Since 2020 (due to the rule “Ethics committee approval must be obtained separately for research conducted in all disciplines including social sciences and for studies on clinical and experimental humans and animals that require an ethical committee decision, this approval must be stated and documented in the article”), the journal requests an “ethics committee approval” certificate for articles. In case of obtaining the permission of the ethics committee, the institution, date and decision number or number of the permission should be given clearly. 
The situations that require ethics committee approval are as follows:
1. In any kind of qualitative or quantitative research in which interview, focus group study, observation, experiment, questionnaire and interview techniques are used and data are collected accordingly,
2. If humans or animals are used for experimental and other scientific purposes,
3. In clinical studies on humans and animals,
4. In retrospective studies, in accordance with the law on protection of personal data.

Editor’s responsibilities 
1. The editor of the Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Social and Economic Researches evaluates the papers submitted to the journal according to their academic qualifications. 
2. The importance of the study, its originality and contribution to the field are critical. 
3. The journal editor has full authority on which publication in the journal will be published or not. The editor should make the publication decision taking into account the legal requirements regarding copyright infringement, conflict of interest, degrading publication and plagiarism. Criteria such as race, gender, ethnicity, religious belief or political opinion should not be taken into consideration during the evaluation of the publications. Submissions should be reviewed without prejudice (Publication and Responsibility Decision and Impartiality).
4. According to the principles of impartiality and diversity, reviewers from different institutions should be appointed for the publications submitted to the journal. 
5. Any information should not be disclosed by the editor anywhere and in any way (Privacy). 
6. The editor may never use the information or materials of the submitted works for their benefit without author approval. The editor should never conflict with interest concerning accepted or rejected works (Conflicts of Interest and Disclosure). 
7. The editor reserves information about the referees and should prevent plagiarism and fake data (Scientific Abuse).

Responsibilities of the authors 
1. Each paper which sends to the journal must be original and not published anywhere before. The authors should fill in the "Copyright Transfer Form" for their study. In addition, they should include the statement that Research and Publication Ethics are compiled in the studies. 
2. The authors should present the purpose, importance, method and results of the study objectively in the original studies submitted. 
3. The authors are deemed to have accepted a detailed examination of the works they submitted. 
4. The authors have to prepare and submit the papers according to the writing rules of the journal. 
5. The authors are deemed to have declared that the data they used in the works they submitted to the journal were original and real. 
6. The authors are obliged to make changes and arrangements that are requested by the referee(s) or editor during the referee evaluation process. 
7. The authors should give accurate and explicit references to the resources used in the study. 
8. Contributing to the content of the study, the process of data collection, analysis, interpretation of the findings, contributing intellectually to the creation of the content, and approving the final version of the study and publishing it provides the criteria of being an author. Those who meet the criteria of being an author should be qualified as the author of the study. 
9. Ethical committee approval must be obtained for experimental studies on humans and animals and this approval must be stated and documented in articles. 
10. In studies requiring ethics committee permission, information regarding the authorization should be included in the method section and on the first and last pages of the study. 
11. Copyright regulations regarding the works to be used in the papers should be taken into consideration. 

Responsibilities of the referees 
1. Reviewers who will evaluate the submitted paper should be objective and impartial. Regardless of the religion, gender, race or political view of the authors, their papers should be evaluated. 
2. Reviewers have the right to re-examine the papers that are requested to be edited or corrected. 
3. There should be no conflict of interest between reviewers and authors, funders or editors. 
4. The academician receiving an invitation for the review of a paper should notify the editor as soon as possible if he/she has/has not accepted the evaluation. The reviewer who accepts the evaluation should make the related evaluations within the given time (15 days) and assist the authors in improving the works. While fulfilling all these responsibilities, the reviewer should avoid criticism that would break the dignity and pride of the authors and keep all information about the works confidential.

EDİTORİAL POLİCY 

1. KMUSEKAD is a refereed international journal that is published twice a year (June and December). Articles in economics, business administration, finance, labor economics, econometrics, public administration, political science, international relations, law, social services, international trade, logistics, sociology, philosophy (Research Article, Review Article, Book Review, Book Review, etc.) are published in the journal. 
2. The journal does not charge for articles and the authors are not paid for their articles. The journal is fully open and there is no subscription fee for accessing articles. 
3. The writing language of the studies submitted to the journal should be in Turkish or English and should not be published anywhere or submitted for publication. Responsibility for this matter belongs to the author (s) of the article. 
4. The articles uploaded to the journal are sent to two referees within 15 days (after the preliminary examination considering the scope of the journal and the rules of the journal) in accordance with the “the principle of blind refereeing”. The referees have 15 days to accept and review the article. If one of the referee evaluations is “accept” and the other is “rejection”, a third referee is appointed to evaluate the article. If the article is accepted by the referees, the authors should make the required corrections within 20 days at the latest and sent to the Editorial Board. 
5. In addition, the plagiarism rate in studies submitted to the journal should be 20% or less (excluding the references).
