In 1989, he graduated from the Department of Meteorology Engineering at the Faculty of Aerospace Sciences (UUBF) at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He began working at ITU UUBF in 1990. He became a senior engineer in 1993 with his thesis titled “Trend Analysis in Turkey's Climate Based on Climatological Series.” He completed his doctorate in 2000 with a thesis titled “Sources and Effects of Acid Rain in Istanbul.” Between 2001 and 2009, he taught computer and information technology courses as a lecturer at the ITU Institute of Information Technology. He was promoted to associate professor in 2012 and professor in 2018. In 2018, he served as deputy director and acting director of the ITU Institute of Science. He continues his work as a faculty member in the Department of Meteorology Engineering. He continues his scientific research on air quality, climate, data, and modeling. He continues to write articles and commentaries for various media outlets. He served as the founding school principal of ITU MTAL (2019-2024).
